Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Business Manager will work closely with the Director of Finance and the Director of Operations to manage financial procedures, daily financial operations, employee records and benefits administration at Briya Public Charter School— a leading two-generation education program serving immigrant parents and their young children in Washington, D.C. Briya is a Tier One Public Charter School, consistently achieving the highest educational outcomes through its innovative, family-centric programming.

This is a full-time hybrid position located in Washington, D.C.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Business Administrator position may include, but is not limited to, the following tasks and responsibilities:  

Human Resource Coordination:  

  • Oversees and manages the process for Briya hourly employee payroll. Issues engagement letter and employment contracts and onboarding documentation for hourly employees, as well as 1099 annual contractors.
  • Monitors time-sheet approval using the ADP Payroll software Sends reminders of time-sheet due dates and communicates with employee supervisor as necessary to obtain payroll approval.
  • Supports Finance Administrator to insure that hourly employee files are complete and up to date and properly filed
  • Responds to any payroll related inquiries from employees or
  • Assists other departments creating employee data reports as
  • Implements and updates human resource manual and policies for Briya hourly employee and volunteers with the support and approval of the Director of Finance

Budget and Grant Management: 

  • Assists with tracking budgetary spending by department and issues department budget reports Assist in meeting with department directors as needed to review department budget reports
  • Works as a liaison between the directors and departments on financial issues or other inquiries
  • Assists Director of Finance in assembling program and annual budget
  • Reviews and reconcile monthly budget vs actual grant reports from government and private foundations including Mary’s Center finance department
  • Monitors timesheets and expense tagging in QuickBooks to assure accurate allocation to grant projects.
  • Monitors grant budget expenditures for grants and update Director of Finance on changes necessary to control costs and meet project objectives.

Operations: 

  • Assists Director of Finance with PCSB, OTR and DC compliance requirements
  • Works as a liaison between the directors and departments on financial issues or other
  • Supports Finance Administrator and Early Childhood team with the NSLP annual application process and audit as needed.
  • Supports school operations staff with acquisition of permits and licenses as
  • Takes minutes at the board finance committee meetings

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience –  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Administration or related field
  • Minimum of three years of related experience
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel, MS Access, and excellent verbal and written presentation skills
  • Excellent time-management, problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
